Van Reenen Transport, Warehouse and Removals

Van Reenen Transport built an energy-neutral distribution centre with a workshop in 2018. This new building was one of the most sustainable distribution centres in Europe.

Issue

The distribution centre receives the BREEAM Outstanding quality mark. One of the criteria for this is the uniformity of daylight. Daylight entry from the existing windows proved to be insufficient. Daylight professional Techcomlight was asked to come up with a solution and provide a daylight calculation.

Solution

A total of 16No Ø 53 cm diameter Solatubes were installed into the distribution centre. Due to the existing  ceiling system within the building, the office variant of the Ø 53 cm was chosen as the square ceiling diffusers fit perfectly into the ceiling grid.

Customer comments

In addition to the energy savings achieved through the use of daylight, daylight is also pleasant to work under.

Van Duuren Districenters

Van Duuren Districenters is a Pan-European logistics service provider. The company has a large network in 39 countries. Van Duuren also has its warehouse in Vianen, which is used for both short term (less than 48 hours) and long term storage.

Issue

The electrical lighting was outdated in the three warehouses used by Van Duuren, which led to high energy consumption costs and a poor working environment. Upon the renewal of the electrical lighting fixtures, the energy costs were reduced, but the working environment still required improvement.

Solution

39 Solatube daylight systems were installed into the warehouses, which combined cover 7000 m2. The Solatubes provide a constant light supply to the central work floors and a combination of light and motion sensors are integrated for optimum energy saving.

Customer comments

With the daylight coming through the Solatubes, it is now much more pleasant in the shed. You notice the natural changes in daylight. Even if the lights are on during a dark day, the staff will experience that it is more pleasant to work.

Van den Haak TransMission

Transport company Van den Haak is part of TransMission, a joint venture of independent transport and distribution companies in the Netherlands and Belgium. The warehouse of the transport company is located in Geldermalsen.

Issue

This project looked for an energy-efficient way to provide the building with light. The companies first choice was to use street lights, however a coating which was applied to the lights to reduce the amount of heat the lights added to the building also reduced the light output resulting in insufficient lighting in some areas.

Solution

14 Solatubes Ø 53 cm systems (warehouse variant for open ceiling) were installed between the electrical lights above the loading and unloading depot. Due to the height of the ceiling, the Prismatic ceiling diffuser was chosen which projects the daylight down to the work floor.

Customer comments

By supplementing the Solatubes, we have achieved our energy-saving goal and are not affected by heat entry.
