Veldhuizerschool Ede

The existing primary school turned out to be too small and too old for six groups. That is why a new building has been chosen that offers space for eleven groups with a playroom. As a result of integral teamwork within various disciplines, Techcomlight was involved in the construction plans at an early stage. Techcomlight was responsible for daylighting in this project.

Issue

The new Veldhuizerschool in Ede had to use up to 80% less energy by using passive resources. The fully energy-efficient school is built according to the standards of passive construction.

Solution

The Solatube Ø 35 cm ECO is equipped with an additional dome, insulation lens and insulated roof flashing. As a result, insulation values of up to 0.7 W / m²K are achieved, making it suitable for passive construction. This contributes to a significant reduction in energy consumption. Moreover, it has been scientifically proven that daylight entry contributes to improved school performance of the children. Daylight provides more ability to concentrate, a better mood, more productivity, less disease and it reduces errors.

Passive school de Waterhoef

A small monumental monastery has been developed into the Brede School de Waterhoef in the village centre of Oisterwijk. This passive school has taken into account the guidelines for a sustainable and green school (a pilot project of the Asthma Fund and the GGD).

Issue

The biggest challenge of the assignment was to not let the bulky new building drown out the characteristic monastery. This has been solved by designing several small-scale buildings with classrooms the same length as the height of the existing monastery. In addition, the following design criteria had to be achieved;
- Realizing a healthy indoor climate;
- Sustainable building;
- Sustainability in the partners; education program.

Solution

Naturally, daylight entry could not be missed when realizing the aforementioned criteria. The choice was made for a total of 26 Nr Ø 35 cm Solatubes of which 12 Nr were installed into a flat roof and 14Nr into a tiled roof. This way of lighting is not only energy-efficient, but daylight is also proven to improve students levels of concentration.

Passive house Veere

Issue

The realization of a passive house within the historic architectural context. In some rooms it was not possible to install windows due to visibility over the neighbouring properties. Another possibility was therefore sought for daylight entry.
