Cluistra has been the company for buying, renting and leasing for forty years, but also for repairing and maintaining trailers and aerial work platforms. The company operates from an extensive location in Veenendaal.
The owner of Cluistra Trailers was looking for an energy-efficient lighting solution with a focus on energy saving for his showroom, storage and workshop.
There was no single supply of daylight in the showroom, therefore Cluistra was dependent on artificial lighting. Energy was being wasted in the showroom which was lit all day long even when there were no occupants in the room. Motion detectors were fitted as a solution, however the disadvantages of this were that the lights had to switch on / off a lot and it was always dark when entering your room. 20 Nr 53 cm Ø Powerdaylight systems were installed which solved all of these issues.
Unlike the showroom, the storage area of the company has a huge glass façade that provides daylight. However, there was still a need for extra daylight in the middle of the room where the light from the glazing faded. The installation of twelve tubes 53 cm Ø Powerdaylight systems in the middle of the storage area, in combination with the façade windows, ensures an even daylight distribution.
There was also a need for more daylight in the workshop. As with the other two areas, this was the case with a view to saving energy, but in this room also specifically with regard to employee health. Four 53 cm Ø systems now provide an inviting and healthy place to work.
In addition to the holding company, the O. de Leeuw Group consists of six trading companies in Zwolle. Sustainable and socially responsible entrepreneurship is in the blood of the group and is an important part of the company strategy. The group has therefore already taken several sustainable steps and plans to continue this strategy, such as equipping a number of their commercial buildings with PV panels.
At O. de Leeuw Group, CSR and a sustainable policy are important. The entire group was looking for a solution to reduce the energy bill for lighting for the most part.
A total of 142 Powerdaylight systems have been installed at Leeuwtechniek and IJzerleeuw. These energy-neutral daylight systems provide sufficient daylight in the wareshouses and thus contribute to a more pleasant working climate and - because the light no longer has to be switched on during the day - to save energy. Good to know: the tubes with a diameter of 53 centimetres can easily be combined with the solar panels already present and to be installed in the future.
The Powerdaylight daylight systems provide a unique daylight experience in the storage areas. It also saves a lot on energy bills.
BP (British Petroleum) is an oil company headquartered in London. BP wants to help the world achieve the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement by adopting a “net-zero” approach in order to contribute to improving the lives of the world's population.
With approximately 350 filling stations in the Netherlands and 1,200 in the United Kingdom, BP is one of the largest players in the fuel market.
To reduce their own energy demand without sacrificing comfort, BP was looking for solutions for their own petrol stations.
Techcomlight has now supplied Solatube daylight systems to various petrol stations all over the world for sanitary areas, shops and storage areas.
The Fragrance & Beauty Company BV is a company specialized in high-end beauty products, such as perfume, skin care, hair care and cosmetics, with more than 30 years of experience!
Due to the growth of The Fragrance & Beauty Company BV, the company purchased extra office space. The new annex had to be renovated. The building is equipped with insulated and tinted glass to prevent heat. The company wanted to use as few electrical lights as possible as they increase the temperature in the workplace.
The Warehouse Manager Quint Sanders opted for the sustainable Solatube daylight system. Daylight provides extra light and counteracts temperature differences due to the systems good insulation properties. Daylight also increases the employees concentration and productivity. The Solatubes at The Fragrance & Beauty Company BV are equipped with TechLED. When daylight is less effective, TechLED automatically supplements the daylight with energy-efficient LED lighting.
Every workplace has daylight. I was skeptical, but the office staff experienced it as beautiful light, which feels natural and works well. I'm glad I made this choice. The TechLED also shines perfectly automatically. The big advantage is that the LEDs and Solatube do not emit heat.
M&S is probably the best known name on the UK high street and has stores in over 50 territories across Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Its Property Group is responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of its buildings which includes stores, offices and distribution sites. Integral to its work is Plan A – an initiative to improve the sustainability of the M&S Estate.
The aims set out in Plan A are achieved in a variety of ways and include the testing of new techniques, technologies and products in its Sustainable Learning Stores which include one of its premier sites at Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford, East London.
Solatube Daylighting Systems were installed to back offices and staff training rooms at this store to bring daylight to areas that would otherwise have no natural light and contributed to the store being awarded BREEAM Excellent Certification.
The main contractor on this site was Simpson York and project manager Nigel Harthill was impressed by the performance of the Solatube systems, commenting that the overall effect was very good.
We were very pleased to be involved in such a prestigious project at this iconic landmark site and are delighted to have helped contribute to the BREEAM Excellent Certificate awarded to this store.
Stater Bros. Markets, Inc. uses daylight to create an innovative energy-efficient shopping environment at their new grocery store in Chino Hills, California. The effective use of daylight not only serves to fully displace the need for electric lighting during the majority of daylight hours throughout the year, but also enhances the appearance of the products being sold. It truly creates a more natural and enjoyable environment for both the patrons and staff.
Provide significant annual energy and operating cost savings while also establishing a higher-quality retail environment through effective daylight harvesting.
The Solatube Daylighting Systems are used to fully daylight the entire 43,235 square-foot sales floor (including produce, pharmacy, and checkout aisles) and back-of-house stocking spaces in the new Chino Hills store. Sophisticated panel-level photocontrols provide multiple controlled lighting zones utilizing a single photocell that is integrated into the Solatube Daylighting System. The abundant daylight from the Solatube Daylighting Systems accentuates the natural beauty of the high-quality produce and grocery products available in the store. The Solatube Daylighting Systems are artfully placed to provide accent lighting for key architectural details and to brighten the perimeter walls of the store.
The most exciting aspect of this installation is that the projected energy savings resulting from the Solatubes will cut our annual lighting energy costs by nearly half. In addition to saving energy, the Solatubes will keep the store lighted in the event of a black-out situation, which is a real plus.
Byerly’s is an upscale supermarket chain with locations in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. They are owned by Lund Food Holdings, Inc.
When the company decided to open a new store on France Avenue in Edina, Minn., CEO Tres Lund directed the architecture team to incorporate sustainability into the design, including daylighting. While he was not a fan of traditional skylights, he was intrigued by other daylighting technologies like Solatube Daylighting Systems.
The project team knew their client desired more natural light but wanted it to be diffused across large areas of the store. Byerly’s also wanted it to integrate smoothly with the electric lighting. While the client was familiar with the Solatube Ø 53 cm product line, they were most excited to hear there was a larger diameter option available with the new high-output Solatube Ø 74 cm
The store really does look great and your product is working well, I like the look and functionality in the retail environment.
Brick manufacturer Daas offers architects a source of inspiration. Any creative solution is possible with the extensive range of bricks available. By continuously listening to questions from the market, the identified needs are continually translated into new products. In order to clearly show the range to customers, the Daas building has been expanded with a showroom.
The company is a leader in high-quality sustainable construction, which is why sustainable products were a requirement in the new building. Extensive use has been made of daylight to bring out the natural colours of the bricks. The architect Kees Marcelis has equipped the showroom with four large windows. There are two ponds in front of the windows in the middle of the building. The reflecting water reflects the daylight inward. This gives a nice effect due to the reflection on the ceiling. However, the windows were not sufficient to illuminate the long brick sample covered walls with natural daylight.
18 Solatubes including lighting fixtures were installed on both sides of the extension. The big advantage of this is that the Solatube® daylight system does not let in heat. In addition, the kitchen and toilets are equipped with Solatubes. The electrical lighting never needs to be switched on during the day, which provides sufficient energy savings. Six Solatubes have been installed with integral daylight dimmers which allow the building occupier to regulate the amount of daylight desired such as during a presentation.
The colour rendition of the brick faces comes into its own with all the daylight. After four o'clock we no longer have any appointments in the showroom, because the daylight decreases. In addition, the environment feels very pleasant. ”

BMW Motor Houtrust moved in January 2013 and now has a new, fresh, transparent and efficient building with a spacious workshop that is fully visible to customers, due to the use of a lot of glass.
The architect started from the “Trias Energetica” in the construction of the building. This is a three-step plan to create an energy-efficient design. Good insulation, correct light incidence and efficiency are central to this.
Colours look very different indoors than they do outdoors in daylight. To keep this difference as small as possible, the owner wanted to bring in daylight. It was important that this would be done in the most environmentally friendly way. This was done under the motto “you don't have to save what you don't use”.
In addition to the glass walls (of which 1 has sun protection glass), 9 Solatubes® were also installed. In this way, 'spots' are created in the showroom where the light is most natural.
We chose Solatube ® precisely because the light that the tube emits ensures better colour rendering. This is especially important in this industry. For that reason there is also solar control glass on the south side and normal glass on the north side of the building. ”

Pon dealer, importer of Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche, among others, is a leading company in the Netherlands. With more than 10,000 employees, the family business wants to offer the best service to its (potential) customers.
Pons holding wanted to reduce power consumption and was looking for environmentally friendly lighting. Electric light often turns out to be superfluous when using more daylight, which is why it was decided to install 81 Solatube daylight systems.
The 53cm diameter Solatube system has been used in the workshop and showroom, as it can be suspended freely from the underside of the roof in this type of open space. For rooms with a suspended ceiling, the Ø 35 cm was preferred.
We are very satisfied with the daylight systems. In addition to the 'green' lighting and the financial benefits, the pleasant daylight also provides a true-to-life reproduction of colours. This is especially important in the showroom.
