Work started mid-2018 on doubling the width of the N381 between Donkerbroek and Oosterwolde and is due to be completed mid-2022.
The existing fauna tunnels underneath the road had to be extended. The extension of the badger tunnels had to be completed in just one day, so that the migration routes for the animals could continue to be used.
5x prefabricated Solatube fauna tunnel daylight systems were delivered on the day that the fauna tunnels were extended. The work was completed as required and the fauna tunnels were open for use by animals again that evening. The daylight systems help the animals to navigate correctly through the tunnel rather than becoming disorientated and turning around half way through.
